ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Netbook (1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB E-Storage, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony

The keyboard is not as nice as my old Thinkpad 240x, but it's an excellent value for the money. I followed the instructions on the Eee 1000H forum to remap the page up key into a shift key, so now touch typing is easy and practical. (I use the side button on my wireless mouse as the page up key.) I like that the laptop does not get hot in use. I upgraded to 2 GB memory, which couldn't have been easier. I have had many small laptops over the years and find that this one suits my needs perfectly. A built-in trackball would have been nice, but nobody's doing that any more.
